College Park, Md. - The Wildcats traveled to Maryland this weekend where they participated in the Terrapin Cup Invitational. The men finished with 229 points putting them in 6th place while the women finished 5th with 429 points.

The highlight of the weekend for Villanova was freshman Lindsey Hagens (Westboro, Mass.) bringing home first place in the 200 back. Hagens finished with a time of 1:59.95 earning 20 points for the Wildcats.

Another excellent performance came from sophomore Astrid Armgarth (Linkoping, Sweden) who brought home a second place finish in the 400 IM (4:22.60). Finishing less than two seconds behind the leader, she earned 17 points. Armgarth also finished second in the 1650 free with a time of 16:54.58. Her teammate, Junior Shannon Dwyer (Hicksville, NY) brought home 5th in the same event finishing in 17:08.17.

Senior Kerri McIlvain (Philadelphia, Pa.) swam the 100 and 200 breaststroke events netting 30 points for the Wildcats. Her time of 1:04.44 in the 100 back was good for third place while she finished 5th in the 200 with a time of 2:19.16.

The 800 free relay team brought home 3rd place and 32 points for Villanova. The team consisting of Armgarth, junior Sarah Czar (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) and seniors Marlee Morden (Sarnia, Ontario) and Kaitlynn Osborn (Lake Bluff, Ill.) recorded a time of 7:37.25.

In the diving events, the Villanova women were led by Senior Lindsay Davis (Bethel Park, Pa.) in the 1 meter where she earned 7th place with her score of 200.80. In the 3 meter, freshman Amanda DiMarco (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) recorded a score of 222.40, finishing in 8th place.

 

 

Strong points for the men were their relay performances, including a 9th place finish in the 800 free relay. Senior John Schaefer (Hinsdale, Ill.), junior Sean Whipkey (McLean, Va.), and sophomores Nick Williams (Holmdel, N.J.) and Tom Maughan (Park Ridge, N.J.) combined for a time of 6:58.04.

Villanova also had a 10th place finish in the 400 free relay. The same team as the 800 relay, consisting of Maughan, Schaefer, Williams and Whipkey finished with a time of 3:10.29.

Williams also earned five points for the Wildcats in his 12th place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:42.03.

Sophomore David Reynolds (Harleysville, Pa.) scored a 191.95 in the 3 meter diving event to finish in 10th place earning seven points for Villanova. He was closely followed by teammate junior James Styles (Staten Island, NY) in 11th with a score of 181.00.

The Wildcats women are back in action December 4th for the US Short Course National Championships in Atlanta, Ga. The men will be in Baltimore Maryland on December 5th to compete in a Double Dual meet against Loyola, Marist and Delaware.
