Villanova Women Take Lead After Day One of Frank Elm Invite

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Villanova got off to a winning start at the Frank Elm Invite held at Rutgers Friday evening as they won every event in the first day of races. The Wildcats took first place in all five events on Friday. Senior Erin Malone broke a university record in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:02.35. The trio of Roxy Tammadge, Leigh Anne Patterson, and Hayley Edwards completed the 1,2,3 sweep in the 500 yard freestyle.
The Wildcats got their first win of the night in the 200 yard freestyle relay featuring Fiona Hardie (Hampshire, England), Kaisla Kollanus (Hyvinkaa, Finland), Natalie Elphick (Durban, South Africa) and Katrin Heider (Bergisch, Germany). The squad beat their opponents with a time of 1:35.96.
Roxy Tammadge took the 500 yard freestyle, touching the wall at 4:49.88. Behind her, teammates Leigh Anne Patterson (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Hayley Edwards (Pilesgrove, N.J.) swam to second and third place, respectively.
Erin Malone (Sydney, Australia) shattered a Wildcat record when she swam to first place in the 200 individual medley in 2:02.35. Lindsey Hagens (Westboro, Mass.) came in just behind Malone and finished second at 2:06.70.
Freshman Kaisla Kollanus got an individual victory in the 50 freestyle with a winning time of 23.49. Fiona Hardie recorded a time of 23.87 and finished in second.
In the last event of the evening, it was Villanova again who captured the first place finish in the 400 yard medley relay. The winning team featured Lindsey Hagens, Erin Malone, Fiona Hardi and Kaisla Kollanus.
The Wildcats will hope to continue their hot streak as they compete in the second day of competition later today and tomorrow afternoon.
