College Park, Md. - After day one of the Terp Cup at the University of Maryland, the Villanova Wildcats women's swimming and diving team stands in fourth place. The men's team had a difficult day in the pool, and currently sit in 12th position going into day two on Friday.
For the Wildcat women, Annie Kelley (Newton, Mass.) had the best finish of the day, taking home a fifth place finish in the 200 IM (2:04.09). Kristina Lennox finished sixth in the 500 free (4:57.08). The Wildcats also received two seventh place finishes on the day, one from the 200 freestyle relay team of Lennox, Carly Beck (Lake Forest, Ill.), Jesse Radtke (Willoughby, Ohio) and Sarah Czar (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J.), who posted a time of 1:36.28 in the finals. The other sevethn place finish came from Radtke in the 50 free, who finished in a time of 23.93.
Senior Jenny Somerville (Hillsdale, Ind.) won the consolation race of the 500 free in a time of 4:55.52, two seconds faster than her preliminary time that did not qualify her for the finals.
On the men's side, the top finish came from the 200 free relay team of Zach Rambo (Pottstown, Pa.), Mike Kernicky (Glen Mills, Pa.), Brett Karbach (Glenside, Pa.) and Sean Whipkey (McLean, Va.) who finished 16th in a time of 1:27.69.
Day two of the Terp Cup gets underway at 10 AM on Friday, and then wraps up on Saturday, also beginning at 10 AM.
