STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Swimming and diving (0-3) was handed their third loss of season in a 211-81 defeat at Penn State Saturday afternoon. The meet was highlighted by two third place finishes from Jordan Bickhart (Wyomissing, Pa.) and Tony Sipala (S. Glastonbury, Conn.) and a series of exhibition victories for Villanova.
Bickhart got the first top-finish of the afternoon in the 1000 yard freestyle as he touched the wall third at 9:59.01.
Sophomore Tony Sipala earned his third-place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke, registering a time of 1:02.63. In the men's 200 yard IM, Sipala snagged first place points for the Wildcats finishing at 2:07.03.
Villanova also had a strong finish in the 50 freestyle featuring Jason Moyer (Coopersburg, Pa.) who notched fourth place (22.03), Chris Tamanini (Kingston Twp., Pa.) who finished fifth (22.57) and Ryan Murtha (Philadelphia, Pa.) who took sixth place (23.31).
The Wildcats secured a series of top finishes due to an exhibition rule. In the 100 yard butterfly, Kyle Grant (Winnetka, Ill.) earned first place with a time of 54.60. Jason Moyer finshed second at 54.93 and Braden Clarke (Chappaqua, N.Y.) finished third with a time of 56.89.
In the last race of the afternoon, Villanova's 200 freestyle relay team featuring Ben Smith (Sudbury, Mass.), Braden Clarke, Kyle Grant and Scott Thiede (Bethesda, Md.) swam to a first place finish with a time of 1:29.97.
The Wildcats are back in action next weekend November 16-18 when they head to Rutgers for the Rutgers Invitational.
