STORRS, CONN. - On Sunday, Nov. 3, in Storrs, Conn., the Villanova University swimming & diving team split with the University of Connecticut, with the Wildcat women defeating the Huskies, 139-104, but the men falling at the hands of UConn, 132-74.
It was a big day for senior Maddy Crippen and junior Rebecca Koch, who combined for five individual victories in the meet. Crippen took home three first place finishes, winning the 200 yard individual medley (2:08.78), 200 yard butterfly (2:04.80) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:19.64). Koch won both the 200 yard freestyle (1:52.94) and 500 yard freestyle events (4:56.60) on Sunday.
Three other Wildcat women also tallied individual victories, with Lauren Schulman winning the 1000 yard freestyle (10:20.75), Kiersten Rosenberg placing first in the 100 yard freestyle (52.85), and Victoria Delollo taking first in the 200 yard backstroke (2:02.94).
For the Villanova men, senior Justin Buland and sophomore Bryan Rivera each swam to wins in the meet. Buland placed first in the 200 yard breaststroke, finishing the event with a time of 2:17.74. Rivera won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:53.53. Senior Peter Klimas tallied a second place finish in the 100 yard freestyle on Sunday, swimming a time of 47.65.
In the diving events for the Wildcats, Julie Rhines placed fourth in the one-meter dive with a score of 218.62, and fifth in the three-meter with a mark of 209.40.
In the relay competition, Villanova took three out of the four events. Delollo, Charysse Johnston, Rosenberg and Koch placed first in the 400 yard medley relay (3:55.43). In addition, Rosenberg, Nichole Werger, Amanda Jackson and Trista Felty swam to a first place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:34.87), and Matt McLaughlin, Rivera, Buland and Klimas took first in the same event with a time of 3:19.88.
