VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova posted a 1-1 record in the Saturday afternoon meet held in the Pavilion Pool against James Madison and West Virginia. The Wildcats beat JMU 159.5-139.5 and fell to WVU 171-128. Freshman Kaisla Kollanus (Hyvinkaa, Finland) notched two individual first-place finishes and anchored a victorious relay team for Villanova.
Kollanus posted her first win of the afternoon in the 50 yard freestyle, touching the wall at 23.73. The next competitor finished at 23.98. She got her second first-place finish in the 100 freestyle where she recorded a time of 51.36. Finally, Kollanus anchored a 200 yard freestyle relay that finished with of winning time of 1:36.13. Also a part of the relay team was Natalie Elphick (Durban, South Africa), Fiona Hardie (Hampshire, England) and Katrin Heider (Bergisch, Germany).
Senior Erin Malone (Sydney, Australia) earned an individual win the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.46. Malone also got a second-place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke finishing just a second behind her opponent at 1:05.62.
Roxy Tammadge (Durban, South Africa) was the runner-up in the 500 yard freestyle (4:57.72) and the 1000 yard freestyle (10:05.57). Hayley Edwards (Pilesgrove, N.J.) also posted two second-place finishes in the 200 yard butterfly (2:02.67) and the 100 yard butterfly (56.99). Lastly, Katrin Heider notched a second-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle (1:51.50).
The Wildcats will hit the pool next Saturday and Sunday at Rutgers against Connecticut, Georgetown and Rutgers.
