PHILADELPHIA, PA. - In the 2001-2002 season opener for the Villanova swimming & diving program on Friday, Oct. 26, in Philadelphia, the Wildcat women defeated La Salle by the score of 139-96, while the men were defeated by the Explorers 143-92.

In women's competition, junior Maddy Crippen and freshman Nichole Werger each posted two individual victories. Crippen took home first place finished in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:07.44) and the 200 yard butterfly (2:07.34). Werger placed first in the 50 yard (25.11) and 100 yard (53.64) events.

Other individual winners for the Villanova women were sophomore Michelle Diago in the 200 yard freestyle (1:59.16), senior Brooke Corby in the 200 yard individual medley (2:12.41), freshman Victoria DeLollo in the 200 yard backstroke (2:04.29), and freshman Charysse Johnston in the 200 yard breaststroke.

Winner for the Wildcats on the men's side included juniors Peter Klimas in the 50 yard freestyle (21.54), Andrew Harbuck in the 200 yard individual medley (1:59.58) and Justin Buland in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:12.05).

In diving competition, the top finish for the Villanova women was sophomore Amy Sfara in the one-meter (232.88) and three-meter (198.30) dives.

The Wildcats will get back into action on Saturday, Nov. 3, hosting Seton Hall and Connecticut at 1:00 p.m. in the Villanova Swim Center.
