INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Senior Erin Malone (Sydney, Australia) produced the first team point in nine years for Villanova at the NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday night, as she qualified for and finished 16th in the finals of the 200 yard breaststroke. Malone and fellow senior Hayley Edwards (Pilesgrove, N.J.) each wrapped up three days of competition at the IU Natatorium and the IUPUI Sports Complex.

Malone competed in the preliminaries of the 200 breast on Saturday morning and registered a time of 2:09.45, which lowered her own school record that she set only last month at the BIG EAST Championships. Malone touched the wall with a time that was a full 1.8 seconds faster than her time at the conference meet.

The time of 2:09.45 ranked Malone 12th overall in a field of 52 entries for the preliminaries of the 200 breast. Malone qualified for the "B" level final on Saturday night and she broke the 2:10 mark for a second straight race, coming in 16th overall with a time of 2:09.92.

Edwards swam in the finals only 1650 freestyle and finished 34th out of 41 entries with a time of 16:24.73. She swam in the event at the national meet for the third time in four years.

This is the 11th time that Villanova has scored team points at the NCAA meet. The team's best finish was 18th place back in 1993.
