INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Seniors Hayley Edwards (Pilesgrove, N.J.) and Erin Malone (Sydney, Australia) began three days of competition at the NCAA Championships on Thursday morning, with each competing in one preliminary event at the IU Natatorium and the IUPUI Sports Complex. Edwards swam in the preliminaries of the 500 yard freestyle and Malone competed in the preliminaries of the 200 yard individual medley.

Edwards registered a time of 4:45.83 in the 500 free and came in 38th in a field of 61 swimmers. That mark also put Edwards first out of three BIG EAST swimmers who competed in the race. She will return to action tomorrow morning for the preliminary round of the 200 free. Edwards swims in the first of seven heats in that event.

In the preliminaries of the 200 IM on Thursday morning, Malone touched the wall in 2:01.39 to come in 57th out of 64 entries.
