Villanova Swimming & Diving Completes Day Two of Big East Championships

On Friday, Feb. 18, the Villanova University swimming and diving team competed in day two of the 2000 Big East Championships held at the Goodwill Games Swimming Center in East Meadow, N.Y. Through the first two days of the championships, the Wildcat women stand in sixth place with 263 points, while the `Nova men are in eighth place with 146 points.

In women's competition, Notre Dame stands in first place with 590.5 points followed by Miami (327), Rutgers (302), Pittsburgh (281), West Virginia (272), and Villanova (263). Winding down the women's standings are Connecticut in seventh place (197.5), Boston College (169), Syracuse (135), Syracuse (135), St. John's (61), Seton Hall (59), Georgetown (51), and Providence (34).

On the men's side, Pittsburgh is in first place after two days with 542 points, followed by Notre Dame (360), Rutgers (306), Syracuse (271), Miami (249), St. John's (229.5), West Virginia (199.5), and Villanova in eighth (146). Rounding out the men's standings are Connecticut in ninth place (143), Seton Hall (140), Georgetown (67), Boston College (55), and Providence (32).

The Wildcats had three top three finishes on the day, all coming in women's competition. In the 200 yard medley relay, Villanova's team of Julie Lapinsky, Brooke Corby, Val Mesplier and Kristen Olson finished third in 1:42.81. In the 200 yard freestyle, Olson placed third with a time of 1:51.29. The Wildcats' to finish was posted by Lapinsky, who finished in second place in the 200 yard backstroke in a time of 56.96.
