SYRACUSE, N.Y. - In the final dual meet of the season for both teams, Villanova obtained a split against Syracuse on Saturday at Webster Pool. The women's team (9-2) picked up a 154.5-139.5 victory while the men's team (2-9) was defeated 199-87. Leading the win on the women's side were juniors Kerri McIlvain (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Lindsay Davis (Bethel Park, Pa.).

McIlvain was a double winner in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke while Davis swept the diving events to provide crucial points for the Wildcats. McIlvain won the 100 yard breaststroke by nearly two seconds in 1:05.61 and led a one-two Villanova finish in the event. Junior Brie Von Rosendahl (Verona, N.J.) touched second in 1:07.58.

In the 200 yard breaststroke, McIlvain finished in 2:21.06 to win by more than four seconds over a swimmer from the Orange. She rounded out her day by swimming the second leg of the Wildcat 200-yard medley relay quartet.

Davis registered 18 points for the Villanova cause with her wins in the diving competitions. She and junior Danielle Trinkner (Somerdale, N.J.) were first and second in both the one-meter and three-meter events. Davis won with totals of 239.84 points on the one meter board and 237.23 points at three meters.

The two other individual winners for the Wildcats were sophomore Sarah Czar (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) in the 200 yard freestyle (1:52.92) and freshman Astrid Armgarth (Linkoping, Sweden) in the 200 yard individual medley (2:06.76). Villanova captured the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.39 to win by just 0.24 seconds. Czar led off the relay and was followed by junior Marlee Morden (Sarnia, Ontario), senior Tiffany Brown (San Diego, Calif.) and senior Jesse Radtke (Willoughby, Ohio).

On the men's side, the Wildcats registered a pair of second-place finishes. Sophomore Brett Karbach (Glenside, Pa.) touched in 1:47.38 in the 200 yard freestyle and freshman Justin Stephens (Bloomsburg, Pa.) swam the 200 yard individual medley in 2:06.21. Stephens earned nine points in that event with the fastest Villanova time as Syracuse swam exhibition in the final two events of the meet.

Both Wildcat teams wrapped up dual competition for the season with this weekend's meet and will now prepare for the BIG EAST Championships later in the month. The conference meet will be held February 20-23.
