Wildcats Drop to Pitt in Regular-Season Finale

PITTSBURGH - The Villanova swimming & diving teams fell in their regular-season finale to Pitt Friday afternoon. The women finished with a 202-90 score, while the men ended the meet with a 219-76 score.

Emily Mayo finished the 1000 freestyle in second place with a time of 2:02.77 and also took second in the 500 freestyle (5:04.77).

Sara Jurek took second in the 200 freestyle (1:51.75) while Meghan Conrad earned third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.39.

Kaisla Kollanus fared well in short distance freestyle events, taking second in the 50 yard with a 23.90 and first in the 100 with a 51.38.

Fiona Hardie took second in the 100 butterfly with a 57.74, followed by Kollanus at 58.58.

Jurek took first in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:30.50. Teammate Mary Snyder took second with a 4:43.76.

Jurek, Kollanus, Katrin Heider and Jessica Randolph finished the 400 freestyle relay in first with a 3:29.20.

In men's competition, Harrison Rodts took third in the 1000 freestyle with a 9:45.82. Rodts finished second in the 400 IM (4:24.44), followed at third by Tony Sipala (4:24.44).

Ben Smith finished third in the 200 freestyle with a 1:43.93 and also took third in the 100 butterfly (50.65).



Jason Moyer tapped the wall third in the 50 freestyle with a 21.56.

Moyer, Kyle Grant, Nikolai Tchobanov and Ryan Murtha finished first in the 400 freestyle relay with a 3:17.87.

Up next for the Wildcats is the BIG EAST Championships, with Villanova serving as host for both events. The diving championship will be Feb. 13-15 in Villanova, Pa., while the swimming championship will be Feb. 19-22 in Sewell, N.J.
