Wildcat Swim Teams Sweep Providence

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova men's and women's swimming & diving teams picked up a pair of wins over conference foe Providence in the teams' final home meet of the season Saturday afternoon. The women tallied a 154-74 victory over the Friars while the Wildcat men came out with a 130-95 win.
The teams finished with a combined 20 first place finishes, 11 for the women and nine for the men.
The Wildcats started the meet out strong with first places in both 200 medley relay heats. Megan Conrad, Kristin Haufler, Fiona Hardie and Kaisla Kollanus finished with a time of 1:50.91, while Chris Tamanini, Tony Sipala, Smith and Jason Moyer took first for the men with a 1:36.47.
Heider took first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.84. Emily Mayo tapped the wall at 1:56.16 for second place.
Kollanus, Hardie and Mayo took the top three spots in the 50 freestyle with times of 24.45, 25.17 and 25.98, respectively.
Kollanus took another first place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.79.
Jessica Randolph placed first in the 200 individual medley with a final time of 2:11.97 while Sara Jurek (2:09.27), Kate Koch (2:10.89) and Haufler (2:18.29) took the top three places in the 200 butterfly.
Conrad (2:10.20), Hayden Bumgardner (2:13.63) and Schlesinger (2:13.79) swept the 200 backstroke. Mayo and Merkle combined for the top spots in the 500 freestyle with times of 5:07.07 and 5:17.31.
Hall took first place on the 1 meter board with a score of 220.58. She finished the 3 meter dive with a score of 247.95.
Harrison Rodts placed first in the 1000 freestyle for the men with a time of 9:53.51 while Patrick Sullivan finished the event in third place (10:20.13).
Moyer (21.66), Grant (22.21) and Michael Rodriguez (22.56) took the top three spots in the 50 freestyle. Moyer followed it up with another first place finish in the 100 freestyle (47.56).
Smith and Nikolai Tchbanov placed first and second in the 200 butterfly with times of 1:56.98 and 2:01.84.
Grant placed first in the 200 backstroke (1:58.00) while Greg Cino tapped the wall first in the 500 freestyle (4:49.99).
Zach Romanovsky and Robert Patten took scores of 211.43 and 193.35 off the 1 meter board and a 229.43 and 192.90 on the 3 meter board.
The teams close out the regular season on Jan. 31 with a road meet at Pitt with a 5 p.m. start time.
