Women Pick Up Two Wins On Day One of Meet at Maryland

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats returned to action following the holiday break, as they traveled to College Park, Maryland to compete against the University of Maryland, Pittsburgh and Richmond.
After the first night of events, the Wildcat women sit in third place, trailing Pittsburgh and Maryland. The men are in third place as well, also trailing Pittsburgh and Maryland.
The women got off to a great start thanks to senior Jenny Somerville, who won the 1650 free with a time of 16:46.43. Also picking up a win for the women was Brie Von Rosendahl in the 100 breaststroke, coming in with a time of 1:05.46.
Kristina Lennox finished second in the 100 fly (56.09) to give the Wildcats another solid finish on the first day of the two day event. In the 1 meter diving event, Lindsay Davis gave the `Cats another second place finish by accumulating 228.75 points.
On the men's side, they were led by four fifth place finishes. Brett Karback was fifth in the 100 free, AJ Mak was fifth in the 400 IM as well as the 1650 free.
Both squads will be back in the pool on Saturday morning, starting at 11 AM.
