Lucan Helping Wildcats Swim To Success
Wildcat swimmer Jarad Lucan has been outstanding throughout the 1997 season, in helping lead the Villanova men's swimming & diving team to dual-meet victories over the LaSalle Explorers and the UMBC Retrievers.
A senior from Hamden, Conn. and Hamden High School, Lucan swims both sprint events, as well as middle distance freestyle. A finalist in the 50, 100 and 200 yard freestyle events last season,he has quickly become one of the Big East Conference's top sprinters.
On Tuesday, Oct. 25 against the Yale Bulldogs, Lucan posted two individual victories, winning both the 100 (47.25) and 200 (1:43.63) yard freestyles. In relay competition, Lucan also helped lead the Wildcats to a victory in the 400 yard relay freestyle (3.11.84), along with teammates R.C. Thompson, James Fry and Brian Finucane.
Against the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, Lucan also notched dual victories with wins in the 100 yard freestyle (46.77) and the 500 yard freestyle. Thus far in the 1997 season, he owns the Wildcats' top times in the 50 yard freestyle where he posted a time of 21.27 at the Nike Cup, in the 100 yard freestyle where he notched a time of 46.36 at the Nike Cup and in the 500 yardfreestyle with a time of 4:42.80 versus UMBC.
Lucan and the Wildcats travel to the University of Virginia next, for the University of Virginia Invitational on December 4-6.
