Two More Wildcats Advance in Day Two of NCAA Championships

Boise, Idaho--- In the second day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Bronco Stadium in Boise, Idaho, on Thursday, June 3, Villanova sophomore Charmaine Walker advanced to the semifinals of the 100 meter hurdles, while Wildcat junior Carmen Douma moved on to the finals of the 1,500 meter run.

In the preliminaries of the 100m hurdles, Walker finished fifth in the second heat with a time of 13.28. Walker's time tied her season best and qualified her for the semifinals of the 100m hurdles which will take place on Friday, June 4, at 7:50 p.m. MST. The top three in each heat advanced, with the next seven best times also moving on. Andria King of Georgia Tech won heat two crossing the finish line in 12.98. The best time of the day, however, was had by Yolanda McCray of Miami who set a stadium record with a time of 12.87.

In the 1,500 meter run, Douma placed sixth in her heat with a time of 4:26.20. The time qualified her for the finals, which will be on Saturday night, June 5, at 7:30 p.m. MST. The top four in each of the two heats advanced, with the next four best times also advancing. Hanne Lyngstad of Tulane recorded the fastest time of the day with a 4:23.95.

In day three of the NCAA Championships on Friday, June 4, Charmaine Walker will compete in the semifinals of the 100m hurdles at 7:50 p.m. MST. Later in the night at 8:20 p.m., senior Carrie Tollefson will run in the finals of the 3,000m.
