O'Brien Finishes Sixth At NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships
May 31, 2002 BATON ROUGE, LA.--- Villanova junior Nic O'Brien finished sixth place overall in the finals of the 400 meter hurdles at the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held in Baton Rouge, La. on Friday, May 31. O'Brien ran a personal-best 50.16 in the finals and earned the Wildcats three team points. Florida's Rickey Harris ran the thrid fastest time in the world (48.16) en route to an individual title. Harris, who ran the eighth fastest time in NCAA history, beat out Louisiana State freshman Bennie Brazell (48.80). On Wednesday, May 29, O'Brien qualified for the 400 meter hurdle finals when he ran a 50.22 in Heat 2 of the preliminaries. O'Brien finished second in the heat with the eighth fastest time overall to earn a spot in the finals. Adrian Blincoe and Ryan Hayden will represent Villanova at the NCAA Championships on Saturday, June 1, in the 1500 meter finals. Blincoe and Hayden qualified for the finals with a 3:42.16 and 3:42.27 respectively in the preliminaries.
