Miscues Lead To Men's DMR Eighth Place Finish

April 26, 2002

PHILADELPHIA, PA.----- On Friday, April 26, the Villanova men's distance medley relay team finished eighth overall and the women's 4x1500-meter relay claimed fifth place at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa.

The Villanova men's distance medley relay team rallied to finish eighth place overall after two baton drops. Sophomore Ryan Hayden (Richmond, Canada) ran the opening 1200-meter leg. Just 15 meters into the race an Abiline Christian runner and Hayden bumped into one another, forcing Hayden to drop the baton. Hayden recovered and handed off to sophomore Paul Moser (Copiogue, N.Y.) who ran the 400-meter portion.

As Moser handed off to Jason Jabuat (Peru, N.Y.), he collided with a Texas A&M runner forcing another miscue for the Wildcats. Jabuat, who ran the 800-meter leg, handed off to junior Adrian Blincoe (Auckland, New Zealand). Blincoe anchored for Villanova and ran a strong 1600-meters to allow the Wildcats to finish eighth, despite the two miscues.

On the women's side, Villanova's 4x1500-meter relay team finished fifth place in the Championships of America division with a time of 18:09.02. Sophomore Rebecca Mitchell (Geneva, Ill.) led off the relay and handed off to freshman Kalin Toedebusch (Rockford, Mich.). Freshman Ioana Parusheva (Sliven, Bulgaria) ran the third leg and sophomore Carre Joyce (Charleston, S.C.) anchored the relay.

The Penn Relays continue tomorrow on Saturday, April 27, at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa. Junior Tom Parlapiano (Honeybrook, Pa.) will join Blincoe, Hayden, and Jabuat in the 4xMile Relay.
