At the first day of competition at the 2001 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the University of Arkansas on Friday, March 9, freshman Ryan Hayden (Richmond, Canada) qualified for the finals in the mile run. Hayden ran 4:03.51 to place sixth in his heat and earn the 10th fastest time overall. Stanford's Gabe Jennings tallied the fastest qualifying time with a clocking of 3:59.75. The finals will be held on Saturday, March 10.

In women's action, freshman Rebecca Mitchell (Geneva, Ill.) finished sixth in her heat of the mile run with a time of 4:50.43. Mitchell's time was not good enough to qualify her for the finals. Mitchell's best mile time this year was 4:43.11.

Joining Hayden on the track for the Villanova men on Saturday will be sophomore Adrian Blincoe (Auckland, New Zealand) who will compete in the 3,000 meter run. Representing the Wildcat women will be senior Marlena Robinson (Rochester, N.Y.) who will participate in the triple jump.
