Muncan, O'Brien Qualify for Finals at NCAA Outdoor Championships

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. - On day two of the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held in Sacramento, Calif., on Thursday, June 12th, two Villanova Wildcats qualified for the finals in their respective events. Freshman Marina Muncan qualified for the finals of the women's 1500m run, while senior Nic O'Brien qualified for the finals in the men's 400m hurdles.
In the preliminaries of the women's 1500m run, Muncan placed sixth in heat one with a time of 4:13.45. Fellow Wildcat, junior Rebecca Mitchell, was 13th in heat one with a time of 4:28.79. The top four finishers in each heat along with the next four best times move on to the finals of the event. Muncan was sixth in her heat but had the second best next time and moved on to the finals which will take place on Saturday, June 14, at 10:40 p.m. EST.
In the semifinals of the men's 400m hurdles, O'Brien was fourth in heat two with a time of 49.92. The top two in each heat advance to the finals along with the next six fastest times, among which was O'Brien. He will compete in the event finals on Friday, June 13, at 10:35 p.m. EST.
In the men's 1500m run, junior Tom Parlapiano was seventh in heat two with a time of 3:45.32. With the top four from each heat plus next four best times advancing to the finals, Parlapiano missed the finals by just two positions.
