O'Brien Claims Second Place At 126th Annual IC4A Track And Field Championship

PRINCETON, N.J. --- The Villanova men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Princeton, N.J. for championship competition this past weekend. The women's team competed in the 19th annual ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship while the men's team raced at the 126th IC4A Championship, both held at William Weaver Stadium.

Villanova sophomore Nic O'Brien cashed in with the best performance of the day for any Wildcat runner. O'Brien placed second in the 400 Meter Hurdles final in a time of 50.52 to earn Villanova eight team points. Georgetown's James Graham out-raced O'Brien to the finish line to claim the IC4A title with a time of 50.48.

O'Brien has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a season-best time of 50.30.

Sophomores Carlos Bedoya and Patrick Dunn each posted third place victories in their respective races. Bedoya, a sprinter, raced to a third place finish in the 200 Meter final in a time of 21.34. Seton Hall's Marvin Regis captured the 200 Meter crown with a winning time of 21.03, just .03 seconds ahead of East Carolina's Jeremy Carter (21.06).

Dunn, a distance runner, finished third place in the 5,000 Meter Run in a time of 14:46.25. University of Connecticut's Eric Fleckenstein (14:35.10) and Daniel Ndungu (14.36.02) of Virginia Commonwealth crossed the finish line ahead of Dunn.

Other Wildcats competing on the men's side include junior Patrick Moore who threw a season-best 15.98 meters in the shot put competition. Junior Jon Fasulo finished 10th overall in the 1500 meter final (3:50.86) and senior Mark Blattner ended the Men's Discuss competition in 25th place.

Georgetown won to the team title scoring 87 points, finishing ahead of East Carolina (52 points).

On the women's side, senior Melinda Boykin earned eight of the Wildcats 12 team points. Boykin's best performance came in the discuss competition with a third place finish and seventh place finish in the hammer throw.

Freshman Michelle Ezzie finished 11th in the women's pole vault and Christine Heffernan placed 11th in the discuss throw to wrap-up the women's field events for Villanova.

Sophomore Rebecca Mitchell earned a fifth place finish in the 1500 Meter Final (4:25.36) to account for the other two team points.

Sophomore Carre Joyce finished 12th in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase in 11:14.88 but was unable to earn any points for the Wildcats.

Seton Hall (82) clinched the women's team title in the final event of the day as the Pirates edged Georgetown in the 4x400 Meter Relay by less than a second to hold on to an 82-74 advantage over the Hoyas.
