Women Place Fifth at ECAC's, Men 33rd at IC4A's

On March 4-5 at the ECAC Track & Field Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston, Mass., the Villanova University women's track & field team finished in fifth place with a score of 28. While the women in Boston, the Wildcat men were competing nearby in Cambridge, Mass., at Harvard University. The Villanova men placed 33rd with seven points.

The Georgetown women won the ECAC Championship finishing with 87 points. The Hoyas were followed by West Virginia (78), Seton Hall (69), Connecticut (41) and Villanova. At the IC4A's, the Georgetown men won gave the Hoyas a weekend track & field sweep. Georgetown won the IC4A title with 79 points, followed by Virginia Tech (67) in second, Penn State (47) in third, Seton Hall (41) in fourth, and Connecticut (37) in fifth position.

The Wildcat women had many outstanding performers throughout the weekend's festivities. Junior Charmiane Walker won the 60m high hurdles with a time of 8.19, while fellow Villanovan Sherese Price finished sixth in 8.60. In the women's shot put finals, sophomore Melinda Boykin placed seventh with a mark of 13.89m.

The Wildcat women gained a second victory, as senior Carmen Douma won Sunday's 800m run final with a time of 2:08.47. Other Villanova finalists included junior Marlena Robinson who finished sixth in the triple jump (11.80m), and Sarah Hunt who was 25th in the weight throw (13.72m).

For the Villanova men, Antoine Johnson was a finalist in the 60m high hurdles. Johnson placed first in the third heat and fourth overall, crossing the line in a time of 8.03.
