Villanova University Director of Athletics Mark Jackson today announced that Janine Shao has been promoted from Director of Marketing to Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing. In this role, Janine will join Jake Whitten in handling the overall marketing strategy for Villanova Athletics.
Janine will oversee the marketing and game production initiatives for selected Wildcat athletic events, in addition to being the liaison with student-life regarding student attendance at all athletic contests. Her other duties will include serving as the Fox corporate sponsorship liaison regarding activation and communication, oversight of band, dance, and cheer operations and she will manage the overall event calendar for the Athletic Department. Janine will also assist with secondary administrative support for women’s basketball and women’s soccer.
Prior to arriving at Villanova, Janine worked at ESPN in Charlotte, N.C., where she served as an event supervisor and managed both the Men’s and Women’s Jimmy V Classic college basketball events and Gildan Charleston Classic preseason college basketball tournament. For both of these events she handled the marketing, branding, operations, hospitality, in-game presentation, team management and budget. She also supported the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl working closely with ancillary events, marketing, gifting and budget items.
Janine earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of North Carolina in 2011 and a M.B.A., from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2014.
