Poppe and Snell Recognized by BIG EAST
Kate Poppe and Chase Snell have been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for their performances this past week against Monmouth and St. John's, the conference announced Monday. It's the 10th time in Poppe's career she has been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll and the fourth time this season. This also marks the first time Chase Snell has received BIG EAST recognition in her career.
Piccirillo and Schappert Run to Personal Top Times at Payton Jordan Invitational
Junior middle distance runner Angel Piccirillo (Homer City, Pa.) and senior Stephanie Schappert (Delray Beach, Fla.) each ran personal times in the 1500 meters at the Payton Jordan Invitational hosted by Stanford on Saturday night. In addition, their times from the race at Cobb Track and Angell Field put each of them in the top 15 in the nation on the current year's performance list.
Jordy Williamsz Leads Australia to Pair of Bronze Medals at IAAF World Relays
Junior middle distance runner Jordy Williamsz (Melbourne, Australia) followed up his recent Penn Relays performance with a pair of equally impressive races on the world stage. He represented his native Australia at the IAAF World Relays in the Bahamas this past weekend, where he ran on both the distance medley relay and the 4x800 meter relay. Australia finished in third place and won bronze medals in each of those events.
Wildcats Clinch a Spot in the BIG EAST Tournament With 3-0 Victory Over St. John's
In their final regular season game of the season, the Villanova Wildcats faced the St. John's Red Strom in a game that would be detrimental in deciding the fourth seed in the 2015 BIG EAST Softball Tournament. With the victory over St. John's the Wildcats clinched the No. 4 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament. The Wildcats scored three runs in the top of the first inning and kept that lead for the remainder of the day. The Wildcats season record improves to 24-29, 9-12 BIG EAST while St. John's drops to 26-17, 16-2 BIG EAST.
Gallaway, Seibel Named to All-Tournament Team
Following the conclusion of the BIG EAST Tournament on Saturday night, the conference announced their all-tournament team.
Froccaro and Mucci Listed to BIG EAST All-Tournament Team
Nova seniors Jackie Froccaro and Jessica Mucci were named to the all-tournament team as both led the conference in their respective fields as Froccaro led the BIG EAST in draw controls (4.47) and Mucci led the field in assists (2.00 per game).
Wildcats Fall 16-9 to Denver in BIG EAST Semis
Villanova saw their season come to a close with a 16-9 defeat to No. 4 Denver on Thursday night in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament at Villanova Stadium.
Wildcats Drop Second Game of Series to Butler, 4-1
Junior shortstop Eric Lowe (Arlington Heights, Ill.) continued his assault on conference pitching with two more hits but Villanova (18-24, 4-7 BIG EAST) managed just a single run in the first inning and lost 4-1 to Butler (18-26, 5-6 BIG EAST) in the second game of a three-game series at Bulldog Park on Saturday afternoon. After taking an early lead in the top of the first inning, the Wildcats were unable to capitalize on any of their scoring chances the rest of the way.
