Monique Morgan Named to Jamaica Olympic Team
Another former Villanova great has earned a nomination to the 2016 Summer Olympics, as sprinter Monique Morgan was named to the Jamaica’s Olympic Team in a press release earlier this week. Morgan, who competes in the 100 meter hurdles, was one of 63 athletes nominated to the country’s squad for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil next month. Morgan, a 2007 graduate who has also been a Wildcats volunteer assistant coach, is headed to the Olympics for the first time.
Water Polo Has 13 Named to MAAC Academic Team
The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced the 2014-15 Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for the Honor Roll, a student-athlete must hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The Honor Roll is open to both full-time and associate members in the MAAC. All 25 sports that the conference sponsors are represented.
Nicole Hutchinson Lowers PR in 1500 at World U20 Championships
Rising sophomore Nicole Hutchinson (West Vancouver, B.C.) continued her terrific summer season with another personal best in the 1500 meters on Friday morning at the World U20 Championships. In the preliminary heats of the event, Hutchinson crossed the finish line in 4:22.88 at Stadion Zawisza and finished seventh in her heat.
Villanova Names Kevin Mulvey Head Coach of Baseball Program
A well-known name in the Villanova baseball program was tabbed as the Wildcats next head coach on Thursday afternoon, as Kevin Mulvey was named the 11th full-time head coach in the program’s 150-plus year history. Mulvey, a former standout pitcher for Villanova who reached the major leagues during a successful professional career, is elevated to the head coaching position after spending the previous four seasons as the team’s lead assistant coach.
Sam McEntee and Patrick Tiernan Named to Australia Olympic Team
A pair of Villanova teammates and countrymen were each officially named to the Australian Olympic Team on Wednesday afternoon and will represent their country at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil next month. Current senior Patrick Tiernan (Toowoomba, Australia) and 2015 graduate Sam McEntee (Perth, Australia) were among the country’s 61 selections to the Olympic team in Athletics. They will each run the 5000 meters in Rio.

Teams participating in the tournament include NCAA National Champion Villanova, as well as Boise State, Charleston, Mississippi State, UCF, UTEP, Wake Forest and Western Michigan.
Villanova Finishes Eighth in 2015-16 Capital One Cup Men’s Standings
The final men’s and women’s standings for the Capital One Cup were announced this week and Villanova finished in a tie for eighth place in the men’s standings of the annual competition. A national championship in men’s basketball enabled the Wildcats to score 60 points in the standings. The Capital One Cup, in its sixth year, recognizes national postseason success of collegiate athletics programs in nearly two dozen Division I sports.
Ryan Arcidiacono Wins BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award
Villanova senior Ryan Arcidiacono (Langhorne, Pa.) was named the winner of a BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award for men’s basketball in an announcement by the conference office on Monday afternoon. He was one of two Wildcats who earned the honor, as men’s cross country senior Patrick Tiernan was presented with the same award for his sport.
