Wildcats Compete in Four Events on First Night of Larry Ellis Invitational
There were eight athletes in competition for Villanova at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday night. Two days of competition at Weaver Stadium opened with the Wildcats competing in two running and two throwing events. Freshman Erin Jaskot (Blauvelt, N.Y.) recorded a personal best time of in the 1500 meters and senior Abigail Freitag (Bridgeton, N.J.) established a personal best in the javelin.
Golf Heads to Elverson for Finegan Invitational
The Villanova golf team plays in the fourth-annual Finegan Invitational on Sunday, April 19 and Monday, April 20 at Stonewall North in Elverson, Pa. The 36-hole event will have a 10 a.m. shotgun start on each day. The Invitational will represent the end of the regular season for the Wildcats.
Banks Named Men's Soccer Assistant Coach
Villanova head coach Tom Carlin announced the addition of assistant coach Trevor Banks to the Wildcats' 2015 staff.
Wildcats Fall to Rider, 6-2, in Liberty Bell Classic Final
In the championship game of the Liberty Bell Classic on Wednesday night, Villanova (13-18) was held scoreless from the second inning on in a 6-2 loss to Rider (14-15) at Citizens Bank Park. Sophomore center fielder Donovan May (Newark, Del.) and junior shortstop Eric Lowe (Arlington Heights, Ill.) had two hits apiece, but the Wildcats struck out 14 times and fell to 4-6 all-time in the title game of the local tournament.
Wildcats Topple Temple on Geasey Field
The Villanova women's lacrosse team improved to 8-6 (3-2 BIG EAST) after posting a 9-7 victory over the Temple Owls (9-5, 1-4) for the first time in nine meetings between the two teams. The Wildcats continue to fight for their first BIG EAST Tournament berth as they will now look to a Sunday matchup against Vanderbilt which will decide both teams' fates in the post season.
Wildcats Falter in Late Innings to Rutgers
The Wildcats accumulated ten hits and four runs in game two of the Rutgers doubleheader but were unable to come away with the victory losing 10-4. The Wildcats record falls to 19-21, 6-6 BIG EAST while the Scarlet Knights improve to 23-12 (7-5 Big 10).
Wildcats Can't Overcome Rutgers in Game One
In game one of a mid-week doubleheader at Rutgers there were four solo home runs hit, one by the Wildcats and three by the Scarlet Knights. The Villanova Wildcats (19-20, 6-6 BIG EAST) were seeking their second straight victory in as many days over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (22-12, 7-5 Big 10). The final score of game one was 3-1 Scarlet Knights.
Conrath wins MAAC Defender of the Week
Junior goalie Julie Conrath has been named the MAAC Defender of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. It is the first time she has been honored by the conference this season and the second time in her career.
