Strong Relief Leads to a Wildcat Victory
The Villanova Wildcats softball team returned to the diamond for an early weekend matchup with Maine this morning and recorded their fourth victory of the season in the 4-3 win. The Wildcats got strong performances from both Brette Lawrence and Kate Poppe in relief as well as a strong offensive output in the top of the fourth inning. The `Cats improve to 4-6 on the season while the Black Bears drop to 4-7. Both teams only scored in a single inning of the game; the bottom of the first for the Black Bears and the top of the fourth for the Wildcats.
Four Wildcats Earn BIG EAST Honors
The Big East Conference today announced the 2014-15 women's basketball All-Conference teams and major award winners. Villanova was well represented with four Wildcats earning Big East accolades.
Piccirillo, Schappert and Distance Medley Relay Squad Headed to NCAA Championships
The selected entries for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships have been announced and Villanova had two individuals qualify for the national meet in the Mile, in addition to earning a spot in the distance medley relay. Senior Stephanie Schappert (Delray Beach, Fla.) and junior Angel Piccirillo (Homer City, Pa.) are each individual qualifiers for the national championships. The NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held on March 13-14 at Randal Tyson Track in Fayetteville, Ark.
Wright a Semifinalist for Naismith Coach of the Year Trophy
Villanova head coach Jay Wright, who was the Naismith Coach of the Year Trophy winner in 2006, is one of 15 semifinalists for the 2015 honor.
Villanova Beats Chapman in Final California Game
The Wildcats completed their spring break trip to California by taking on the Chapman University Panthers on Wednesday night and closed the trip on a high note, winning a close match by a score of 12-10.

Wildcat junior freestyle swimmer Kaisla Kollanus (Hyvinkaa, Finland/Makelanrinteen Iukio) has been named the Villanova Student-Athlete of the Month for February, as announced by the Office of Academic Support this week.
Big Bats Power Wildcats Over Mount St. Mary's, 21-4
An impressive offensive display that included three long home runs and more than two dozen hits helped Villanova (4-7) put some rarely seen numbers on the scoreboard in a 21-4 victory over Mount St. Mary's (2-4) at North Charlotte Regional Park on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore center fielder Donovan May (Newark, Del.) went 6-for-6, junior first baseman Max Beermann (Tampa, Fla.) crushed a pair of three-run home runs and four different players had multi-RBI games in the rout.
Villanova Defeated 5-2 in California
As part of their trip to California the Wildcats women's tennis team played today against UC San Diego and lost 5-2. Villanova won two singles matches and a doubles match.
