Women’s Track & Field Wins Nine Events at Jack Pyrah Invitational
Villanova won a total of nine events and started the season off on a strong note at the Jack Pyrah Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The individual victories for the Wildcats came in three sprint events, three distance races and two field events. Villanova also won the 4x400 meter relay at Alumni Gym in the first of three home meets this season.
Men’s Track & Field Starts Strong at Jack Pyrah Invitational
Sophomore thrower Henry Sise (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) finished first in the shot put and Villanova registered a total of nine top-three finishes at the Jack Pyrah Invitational. The season-opening meet at Alumni Gym was the first of three home events for the Wildcats this season.
Track & Field Teams to Host Jack Pyrah Invitational on Saturday
The indoor track & field season will officially kick off this weekend as Villanova hosts the annual Jack Pyrah Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The meet takes place in Alumni Gym at Haverford College and will begin with field events at 11 a.m., followed by the start of running events at 12 p.m.
Marcus O'Sullivan Inducted to Athletics Ireland Hall of Fame
Villanova men’s track & field head coach Marcus O’Sullivan was inducted to the Athletics Ireland Hall of Fame on Wednesday morning at the Irish Life Health National Athletics Awards. He earned the top honor at the annual awards ceremony while surrounded by some of the most legendary figures that have been a part of the Wildcats storied track & field history. Also honored as part of the Hall of Fame festivities was fellow Villanovan and O’Sullivan’s one-time coach, Donal Walsh. The inductions and other annual awards were presented by Athletics Ireland at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Northwood.
Wildcats Return to Pavilion Saturday to Meet Saint Joseph's
With a perfect November in the books, Villanova opens the December portion of its slate Saturday at the Pavilion against Saint Joseph's (CBS Sports Network/610 Sports Radio).
Siofra Cleirigh Buttner is Athletics Ireland U23 Athlete of the Year
Junior track & field and cross country runner Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Dublin, Ireland) was recognized on Wednesday as the Athletics Ireland U23 Athlete of the Year. An awards ceremony was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Northwood in Dublin where the country’s top athletics performers during the past year were recognized. Cleirigh Buttner had earlier been selected as one of three finalists for the U23 Athlete of the Year honor.
Villanova Downs La Salle in Big Five Opener
In women’s basketball action on Wednesday, Nov. 30, the Villanova Wildcats tallied a 52-49 home win over the La Salle Explorers. With the victory, the Wildcats improve to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in Big Five play, while La Salle falls to 3-4 on the year and 0-2 in City Series action.
Villanova Athletics Programs Among Nation’s Best in Graduation Success Rate
A new set of data on the Graduation Success Rates (GSR) of Division I athletics programs was released earlier this month and Villanova continues to rank among the best in the nation in this measure of academic performance. Even as Graduation Success Rates nationwide make a steady increase, the Wildcats consistently remain ahead of the curve when compared to the national averages.
