Villanova Uses Clutch Sixth Inning to Down Friars
In the second game of a doubleheader against the Providence Friars (10-19, 4-8 BIG EAST), the Villanova Wildcats (20-22, 7-7 BIG EAST) were victorious 5-4. The Wildcats used the sixth inning to break the tie and score what would be the game-winning run.
Williamsz Runs Second-Fastest Time In Nation in 1500 Meters
Junior middle distance runner Jordy Williamsz (Melbourne, Australia) and senior Rob Denault (Aurora, Ont.) each ran the equivalents of sub-four minute miles in the 1500 meters during competition at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday night. They posted times that rank second and sixth in the nation, respectively, so far this season in their races at Weaver Stadium as Villanova opened two days of competition at the meet. There were a total of 14 athletes competing for the Wildcats in three running and two throwing events on Friday night.
Softball to Host Strike Out Cancer & Youth Day vs. Providence
The Villanova Wildcats (19-21, 6-6 BIG EAST) will come home this weekend to face the incoming Providence Friars (9-18, 3-7 BIG EAST). The Wildcats will go into the weekend after a 1-2 week. The Friars will be coming into the matchup after three straight games that have been decided in less than seven innings.
Retamar's Double in Eighth Inning Lifts Wildcats Over Xavier, 4-3
Sophomore catcher Zander Retamar (Boca Raton, Fla.) drove in the game-winning run with a two-out double in the bottom of the eighth inning and Villanova (14-18, 2-2 BIG EAST) won the opening game of a three-game series by a 4-3 count over Xavier (9-28, 0-7 BIG EAST) at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth on Friday afternoon. After overcoming a 2-0 deficit earlier in the game, the Wildcats snapped a 3-3 tie with Retamar's second hit of the game.
Wildcats Compete in Four Events on First Night of Larry Ellis Invitational
There were eight athletes in competition for Villanova at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday night. Two days of competition at Weaver Stadium opened with the Wildcats competing in two running and two throwing events. Freshman Erin Jaskot (Blauvelt, N.Y.) recorded a personal best time of in the 1500 meters and senior Abigail Freitag (Bridgeton, N.J.) established a personal best in the javelin.
Golf Heads to Elverson for Finegan Invitational
The Villanova golf team plays in the fourth-annual Finegan Invitational on Sunday, April 19 and Monday, April 20 at Stonewall North in Elverson, Pa. The 36-hole event will have a 10 a.m. shotgun start on each day. The Invitational will represent the end of the regular season for the Wildcats.

Villanova head coach Tom Carlin announced the addition of assistant coach Trevor Banks to the Wildcats' 2015 staff.
Wildcats Fall to Rider, 6-2, in Liberty Bell Classic Final
In the championship game of the Liberty Bell Classic on Wednesday night, Villanova (13-18) was held scoreless from the second inning on in a 6-2 loss to Rider (14-15) at Citizens Bank Park. Sophomore center fielder Donovan May (Newark, Del.) and junior shortstop Eric Lowe (Arlington Heights, Ill.) had two hits apiece, but the Wildcats struck out 14 times and fell to 4-6 all-time in the title game of the local tournament.
