Senior catcher John Fabriziani (Doylestown, Pa.) had two RBIs on the day during his first two at bats on the season, despite Villanova’s (0-2) 12-7 loss to Norfolk State (2-0) at Marty M. Miller Field on Saturday afternoon. Senior right fielder Donovan May (Newark, Del.), sophomore second baseman David Rodgers (West Chester, Pa.) and junior center fielder David Gulati (Collegeville, Pa.) each had two hits apiece.
Big First Inning Lifts Villanova To Win Over Oakland
The Villanova softball team used a six-run first inning to hand the Oakland Golden Grizzlies their first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon by a score of 8-4. Both teams are now 2-1 to begin the year.
Quinnipiac Edges Villanova, 2-1
The Villanova softball team fell to the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Saturday evening, 2-1. The Wildcats had led most of the game, but the Bobcats were able to score two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 2-1 advantage. With the loss, Villanova drops to 2-2 on the year.
Massimino a Finalist for Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame
Villaonva coaching legend Rollie Massimino, who lead the Wildcats to 357 victories and the 1985 NCAA national title, is a finalist for the 2017 class of inductees to the Naismith Hall of Fame.
Men’s Track DMR Team Posts Strong Time at UCS Invitational
On a weekend that offered one of the final chances to post times that will hopefully qualify for the NCAA Championships next month, Villanova traveled to North Carolina to compete in the distance medley relay on Saturday afternoon. It was a successful endeavor for the Wildcats, who posted a time of 9:37.90 while running in the UCS Invitational at the JDL Fast Track. The race was run on a flat 200-meter track, and the conversion factor should lower that mark to one which will rank at least in the top 10 of the current national performance list.
Nicole Hutchinson Lowers Personal Best in Mile at UCS Invitational
Sophomore middle distance runner Nicole Hutchinson (West Vancouver, B.C.) lowered her personal best time in the Mile in a terrific race at the UCS Invitational on Saturday evening. Hutchinson registered a time of 4:36.16 in her race, and the mark will be further lowered once it is converted to account for being run on a flat 200-meter track. Hutchinson was the lone women’s athlete competing for the Villanova in Saturday’s meet at the JDL Fast Track.
