Baseball Defeats St. John's in Sunday Finale, 7-6
The Villanova baseball team (16-22, 4-5 BIG EAST) won behind a strong start by senior left-handed pitcher Josh Harris, 1.1 innings from Max Almonte (W, 3-2) and an eight-out save from Chris Haggarty (S, 8) which pushed the Wildcats to a 7-6 win over the Red Storm.
Day Two in the Books at BIG EAST Golf Championships
The Villanova golf team shot 312 (+24) as a team on Monday to complete round two of three at the BIG EAST Men's Golf Championships at Callawassie Island Club in Okatie, S.C. Through two rounds, the Wildcats have a collective score of 628 (+52) and sit in ninth place.
Day One: Golf in Eighth at BIG EAST Championships
The Villanova golf team concluded play on day one of the three-day, 54-hole BIG EAST Championships at Callawassie Island Golf Club in Okatie, S.C. The Wildcats shot 316 (+28) as a team in round one and currently sit in eighth place.
Wildcats Softball Celebrates Senior Day
On Sunday morning the Villanova Wildcats faced off against DePaul. Ali Angelbello was honored as the team's lone senior on senior day at the Villanova Softball Complex. She was accompanied by her parents¬ Ed and Patty Angelbello for the ceremony. DePaul grabbed the victory 14-1 in six inning as they improve to 20-21, 11-3 BIG EAST and the Wildcats drop to 22-27, 8-10 BIG EAST.
Wildcats Fall Despite Standout Performances from Senior Class
The Villanova women's lacrosse team (9-7, 4-3 BIG EAST) fell to the UConn Huskies (10-6, 5-2 BIG EAST) in a thrilling 14-11 match on Saturday afternoon in Villanova Stadium. While the Wildcats may not have come out on top with the victory, multiple Nova seniors showed standout performances in their final match on the Main Line.
Wildcats Compete in MAAC Consolation Game
After their loss in the MAAC Tournament to the Marist Red Foxes the Wildcats faced off against the Iona Gaels today in the consolation of the MAAC Tournament and were defeated by a score of 12-10. Villanova led by a score of 8-6 at halftime but Iona used a 6-2 advantage in the second half to come away with the victory.
Elbert Maxwell Wins Long Jump Championship at Penn Relays
On his last jump of the day, senior Elbert Maxwell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) achieved a first. He soared to a distance of 7.62 meters in the long jump and became the first Villanova athlete to win the Championship section of a field event at the historic Penn Relays. Maxwell got off to a good start but did not secure the win until his final attempt. The mark of 7.62 meters represents the second-longest jump of his career.
Wildcats Conclude Regular Season with 6-5 Defeat at Providence
The Villanova Wildcats suffered a 6-5 defeat to the Providence Friars on Saturday afternoon at Lennon Family Field to conclude the regular season portion of their 2015 schedule.
