Contract of Baseball Head Coach Joe Godri Will Not Be Renewed
Villanova University Director of Athletics Mark Jackson announced on Tuesday that the contract of baseball head coach Joe Godri will not be renewed. Godri had been at the helm of the Wildcats baseball program for the past 15 years and was one of only 10 full-time head coaches in the program’s 150-year history.
Schryver, Beermann and Czinege Headline Five All-BIG EAST Selections
The largest group of Villanova all-conference players in more than 20 years was revealed on Wednesday morning, as five Wildcats were named All-BIG EAST selections in a vote of the league’s head coaches. Junior starting pitcher Hunter Schryver (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), senior first baseman Max Beermann (Tampa, Fla.) and junior second baseman Todd Czinege (Overland Park, Kan.) all garnered first team honors, while senior third baseman Kevin Jewitt (West Chester, Pa.) and senior left fielder Adam Goss (Bellaire, Texas) were second team choices.
Malone and Williamsz Advance in 1500 Meters at NCAA East Preliminary
Sophomore Ben Malone (River Vale, N.J.) and senior Jordy Williamsz (Melbourne, Australia) each advanced in the 1500 meters during competition in the national first round heats of the event at the NCAA East Preliminary on Thursday evening. Both runners were automatic qualifiers for the quarterfinal round by finishing in the top five of their respective heats at Hodges Stadium. Freshman Ville Lampinen (Vantaa, Finland) was also in action for the Wildcats in the first round of the 800 meters later on Thursday.
Siofra Cleirigh Buttner Qualifies For National Championships in 800 Meters
Sophomore middle distance runner Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Dublin, Ireland) is the first Villanova athlete to qualify for the outdoor NCAA Championships next month. Cleirigh Buttner is an automatic qualifier in the 800 meters after finishing second in her national quarterfinal heat at Hodges Stadium on Friday night. Also in action for the Wildcats on the second night of competition at the NCAA East Preliminary was senior sprinter Shanice Grant (Kingston, Jamaica), who advanced to the quarterfinal heats on the 100 meter hurdles.

The 2016 NCAA Champion Villanova Wildcats will visit the White House for a ceremony to honor their championship on Tuesday, May 31.
Siofra Cleirigh Buttner Advances to Quarterfinals in 800 Meters
Sophomore middle distance runner Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Dublin, Ireland) won her national first round heat of the 800 meters at the NCAA East Preliminary and automatically qualified for the quarterfinals during competition at Hodges Stadium on Thursday night. Villanova had two runners in competition on the first night of the regional meet, with freshman Sammy Bockoven (Hudson, Ohio) also in action in the first round of the 1500 meters.
Moderski and Corrado Chosen for USILA/Nike North-South All-Star Game
The USILA/Nike North-South game will be played this coming Friday, May 27th at Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa. The game will be held at 5:30 p.m. The South will be coached by High Point head coach Jon Torpey. Besides Corrado he will be assisted by fellow High Point assistant coaches Pat Tracy and Ryan Cassidy.

The accepted entries for the NCAA East Preliminary were revealed on Thursday afternoon and Villanova has four men's track & field athletes headed to Jacksonville, Fla. to compete in the early rounds of the national championships next week. This is the third straight year that the East Preliminary meet will head to Hodges Stadium on the University of North Florida campus. The meet takes place next Thursday through Saturday, May 26-28.
